Edward John Wascak, 81 passed away at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown, PA on Thursday, March 19, 2026, surrounded by his family. Edward was born on October 20, 1944, to John and Mary (Surike) Wascak. Preceded in death by his parents, his brother, James “Newt” Wascak and sister-in-law Leeanne, and his in-laws, Albert and Mary (LaMantia) Machak. Survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Veronica (Machak), daughter, Diane (Traves) Hoover and her husband Tom Hoover, and grandchildren, Donovan and Lauren Traves. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Rosemary Lichtefels (Alvin), brother-in-law Albert Machak (Debbie), sister-in-law Cathy Lichtenfels (Harry), and brother-in-law- James Machak (Barbara) along with several nieces and nephews. Edward was a member of the Army National Guard 103rd Division in Johnstown, PA, he also drove truck for Super Oil Company, and he worked most of his life as a coal miner and was part of UMWA Local Union 488 located out of Lucernemines.
Ed was very much a family man and loved to spend time with wife, daughter, son-in-law, and especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed the “coffee club” with his buddies for many years, going to family reunions, playing cards, listening to the oldies, and visiting with family. Ed was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and has missed attending weekly mass in person after he became ill a few years ago. He enjoyed watching westerns, driving his 1957 Chevy, being outside working in the yard and watching the birds from his porch. The family would like to thank the staff on the ICU and Palliative Care floors at Conemaugh for the caring and attentive care given to him. They were not only comforting to him but a comfort to his family during this difficult time.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Jon A. Meese Funeral Home – Seward. Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Catholic Church – Seward, Reverend John J. Harrold officiating. Interment, Armagh Cemetery. Jon A. Meese Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
