Gary Stiles Obituary

STILES – Gary N. Sr., 74, Seward, went to be with the Lord Dec. 29, 2014. Born June 26, 1940, in Johnstown, son of Marlind and Margaretta (Reese) Stiles. Preceded in death by parents; daughter, Cathy Lynn; and stepmother, Johanna Stiles. Survived by loving wife of 54 years, the former Sandra Ooghe; loving son, Gary N. Jr., married to the former Beth Wallace, Ligonier; loving daughters, Tammy, married to Louis Lamoureux, North Attleboro, Mass.; and Jodi, married to Tom Hilsman, Seward; loving grandchildren, Stephanie and Brent Stiles; Ashley and Andrew Lamoureux; and Stephen, Clay and Todd Hilsman; brother, Dr. Marlind Stiles, married to Ila, Erie; special aunt, Naomi Young; sister-in-law, Lynda Ooghe, Johnstown; brother-in-law, David Ooghe, Florida; and nephews, Mark Ooghe and Alan and Andy Stiles. Charter member of Valley Grace Brethren Church, where he served as deacon and trustee. A graduate of United High School, Class of 1958. After graduating, he worked for SaniDairy, until he attended meat-cutting school in Toledo, Ohio. He then worked the Armour Co. until 1972, when he purchased Stiles Market & Hardware from his father. He established Stiles Koolit Korner in 1978 and continued to operate the businesses up until the present time. He enjoyed talking to his customers on a daily basis and cherished all his friendships over the years. He felt blessed to be able to work with his family (five generations). He enjoyed attending his class reunion and visiting with his former classmates. He was an avid Steelers and Pirates fan. He enjoyed watching sports and sponsored many local youth teams and men’s softball over the years. Under his direction, the Stiles’ softball fields were built, which are still in use today. He loved hunting, bowling, visiting Gettysburg and was a fan of John Wayne. He valued his family the most, along with his love for Jesus Christ. Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Jon A. Meese Funeral Home, Seward. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Valley Grace Brethren Church, Armagh, the Rev. Norris Mason, officiating. Private interment at Armagh Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Valley Grace Brethren Church or Wounded Warrior Project.
