Jay D. Darr

DARR - Jay D. "Pick Handle" Sr., 72, New Florence, died Nov. 4, 2009, at Memorial Medical Center. Born Aug. 25, 1937, in Que Creek, Pa., son of Freeman L. and Grace (Barr) Darr. Preceded in death by parents; wife, the former Penelope L. Engleman, who died in 2000; sister, Thelma Gindlesberger; and brother, Richard Darr. Survived by loving children, Jay D. Darr Jr., married to the former Diane Rymarczyk, Seward; Joy Darr-Murphy, South Carolina; Robin L. Darr, Seward; and Shelley L. Mose, and fiance, Greg Shingler, Seward; grandchildren, Christopher J. Darr, Maria D. Casanova, David D. Mose Jr., Brandon Darr, Noetia Flo and Benjamin Flo; great-grandson, Connor J. Darr; brothers, Paul Darr, Park Hill; and Harold Darr, Richland; and sisters, Eloise Singel and Alma. Member of Cramer United Methodist Church. Retired with 30 years of service as a truck driver with R&L Development. Also a member of Teamsters Union Local 110. A U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 until time of funeral service 8 p.m. Saturday at Jon A. Meese Funeral Home, 1201 Fifth St., Seward, the Rev. Ruth Moore, officiating. Interment, Armagh Cemetery, at the convenience of the family. A special thank to the nurses and doctors in the Palliative Care Unit of Conemaugh Hospital for Jay's care.
