Mildred E. Mitchell

MITCHELL " Mildred E., 95, Seward, died Nov. 7, 2010, at Bethlen Home, Ligonier. Born April 17, 1915, in Johnstown, daughter of Earl and Emma (Boyer) Gates. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Charles, who died in 1977; grandson, Christopher Evans, who died in 2005; and brothers, Richard, William and Jack Gates. Survived by loving sons, James E., married to the former Sandra Mundorff, and Robert E., married to former Kimberly Evans; grandchildren, Kristin and Charles Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Megan, Trent, Bailey, Dane and Harper; sister, Betty Irvin, Johnstown; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Gates, Johnstown, and Wanda Gates, New Florence; and several nieces and nephews. Mildred was a faithful member of Seward United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and belonged to the Golden Rule Class for over 50 years. She attended senior citizens centers in Seward, New Florence and Armagh. She worked as a janitor at the church and Seward Post Office in earlier years. She loved to travel and ride the bus, shopping in the Johnstown area. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Jon A. Meese Funeral Home, 1201 Fifth St., Seward, where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, the Rev. Ruth Moore and the Rev. Duk Hee Han, officiating. Interment, Armagh Cemetery.
