Shiley, Richard E., 80, Seward, died Sept 28, 2008, at Indiana Hospital. Born May 7, 1928, in Tire Hill, son of Charles and Florence (Blough) Shiley. Preceded in death by parents; first wife, Shirley Williams, who died in 1969; son, Rick; and brother, Leonard. Survived by loving wife, the former Bonita Boyer; daughters, Roxann, married to James Taylor, North Carolina; and Suzann, married to Keith Hankinson, Virginia; son, Grant, married to the former Tina Rethi, Clymer; grandchildren, Janelle Taylor; Jarrard Taylor, and wife Allison; Ashley and Eric McAchren; and Zackary Shiley; great-granchildren, Sumer and Autum Persio; sisters, Phyllis Skavang, Clyde; Carole and Jess Smith, Clyde; and Brenda Kline, Windber; and sister-in-law, Ida Shiley. Member of the Blacklick Community United Methodist Church. Charter and 30-year member of the United Area Lions Club, where he was awarded the Melvin Jones Award. Former five time club president, region and zone chairman of 14J Lions District. A U.S. Navy vetern of World War II, having served in Guam. He retired with 35 years of service as a bricklayer with Bethlehem Steel Corp. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Jon A. Meese Funeral Home, 1201 Fifth St., Seward. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Blacklick Community United Methodist Church, the Rev. John Hodge officiating. Lions memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment, Grandview Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the United Area Lions Club.
