SAHLANEY Dr. William J., 90, Seward, died Jan. 24, 2012, in Johnstown. Born Aug. 28, 1921, in Houtzdale, son of Michael and Elizabeth (Yazigi) Sahlaney. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Elias, Nicholas, George and Simon Sahlaney; and sisters, Emily George, Victoria Shahade, Catherine Correri, Mary Hamaty and Betty Curry. Survived by loving wife, the former Hannah Robson; loving children, Michael W., married to Linda Colgan, Seward; and Polly, married to Leonard Benning, Ligonier; grandchildren, Ted and Amy Benning; Elizabeth, and husband, Michael Ladurner; Sarah Sahlaney; Timothy Benning; Teresa and Jeremy Barber; and Michaelanne Stutzman; great-grandchildren, Claire Benning, Katie and Brandon Sarver and P.J. and Alex Dumnich; and numerous loving nieces and nephews. Member of Seward United Methodist Church. Death breaks marriage union of almost 60 years. He was a graduate of Houtzdale High School, the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Pittsburgh Medical School. He was a medical doctor who served the Seward community from 1950 to 2000. Dr. Bill was a member of the Lee Hospital medical staff throughout his career and was past president of Lee Hospital Medical Staff. Family was the most important thing in Dr. Bill’s life. Friends and family will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Jon A. Meese Funeral Home, 1201 Fifth St., Seward. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Seward United Methodist Church, the Rev. Scott Hamley, officiating. Interment, Grandview Cemetery.
